Glove Care Instructions
The majority of our goalkeeper gloves are made with high-quality latex palms and materials, designed to provide optimal grip in all conditions. Since latex is a soft, natural material, it is prone to wear and abrasion over time. Just Keepers Ltd and the brands we supply cannot be held responsible for the wear on the palms.
Before Use:
- Thoroughly rinse your gloves with clean cold or lukewarm water before their first use. This helps eliminate any impurities from the production or stitching process.
- It might be beneficial to wash the gloves more than once to achieve maximum performance.
After Use:
- Clean the gloves using a recommended glove wash or mild detergent to remove dirt from the palms, then allow them to dry naturally.
- Avoid drying the gloves in warm places or direct sunlight, as this can cause the latex to become brittle and damaged.
- DO NOT use heat sources like radiators, hair dryers, airing cupboards, tumble dryers, or direct sunlight to dry the gloves.
Latex Wear:
- It’s normal for latex palms to start showing signs of wear after the first use, which can result from factors such as playing conditions, age, technique, and the surface used.
- Latex is a soft, natural material designed to provide excellent grip, so wear is expected when it comes into contact with the ground. Even simple actions like pulling up your socks or using the Velcro closure can contribute to wear.
- Don’t worry if your gloves show wear—this is typical for latex and won’t affect performance until most of the latex is gone.
- Be aware that wear and tear are more noticeable during the start and end of the season when the ground is harder. Try to minimize glove contact with the ground where possible.
- Young or inexperienced goalkeepers may notice quicker foam deterioration, which will reduce as technique improves.
Playing Surfaces:
- Goalkeeper gloves are designed primarily for use on soft, natural surfaces like grass unless otherwise stated (e.g., specialist 3G/astro turf palms).
- When used on artificial surfaces like 3G or astro turf, gloves will experience greater wear and stitching issues due to the increased stress compared to grass.
Stitching:
- Take great care when putting on and removing gloves, particularly lightweight and strapless styles. Always remove your hand from the gloves instead of pulling the gloves off your hand to minimize stress on the seams.
- Over time, stitching may deteriorate, especially in high-stress areas like the wrist, thumb, and palm. If gloves are significantly worn when stitching issues arise, a refund or exchange may not be possible.
Roll Finger & Negative Cut Styles:
- These popular glove styles place considerable stress on seams and fingers during training and match play, which may result in burst seams or damaged foam in high-stress areas.
- Gloves with a ‘Negative Cut’ palm may show wear on the fingertips and thumbs more quickly due to the tight, natural fit. Handle these gloves with care to avoid damage.
Strapless/Lightweight Gloves:
- These gloves are slim and tight-fitting, designed to fit closely to the skin, which can make them more prone to stitching faults when putting them on or taking them off, especially when hands are hot or sweaty.
- Remove these gloves carefully to minimize stress on seams and high-stress areas, such as where the palm is stitched to the glove, the thumb, and the finger gussets. If this style concerns you, consider an alternative style or contact us for advice before purchasing.
Plastic Film on Palms:
- When removing the plastic film from the palms, do so carefully to avoid nicking or damaging the latex.
- Please note that once the film is removed, gloves cannot be returned or exchanged if they don’t fit or are unsuitable.
Final Note:
Proper care of your gloves is essential to prolong their life and maintain performance. If you have any concerns about the care or style of your gloves, please reach out to us before purchasing for further guidance.
